EARVIN "MAGIC" JOHNSON became a household name after leading his Michigan State team to the NCAA Championship in 1979. As an NBA rookie, he paid immediate dividends to the Lakers, leading Los Angeles to the 1980 NBA Championship while being named the MVP of the NBA Finals. Johnson was the undisputed leader of the "Showtime" Lakers, bringing five championships to Los Angeles while winning a pair of MVP awards and being named to 12 NBA All-Star teams. "Magic" was one of the key contributors on the 1992 USA Basketball "Dream Team" that won a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics. Johnson's tremendous contributions as a player, coach, broadcaster and ambassador of the game led to his enshrinement in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
