Though Sosa's career turned the corner when he learned to be more patient at the plate, he remains a hacker at heart. His eyes light up on first-pitch fastballs, and he will take a rip at a 3-0 pitch if it's to his liking. He chooses not to shorten up with two strikes, retaining his power but leaving himself vulnerable to breaking balls down and out of the strike zone. Working him away can be dangerous, though, since he can put a charge into just about any pitch he can reach; his opposite-field power is among the best in the game.
